‘Wuthering Heights’ the musical arrives at Roslyn Packer Theatre to help kick off a big year of theatre in 2025

Emma Rice’s celebrated Wuthering Heights is arriving in Sydney for a limited run from January 2025. 

The highly acclaimed musical, adapting Emily Brontë’s classic gothic novel about love, revenge and a yearning for redemption, will be shaped for the stage at Walsh Bay’s Roslyn Packer Theatre.

Given Rice’s reputation for ingenious storytelling (Tristan & Yseult, The Red Shoes, Brief Encounter), this could be a fantastic start to a year of theatre, sitting alongside already-announced arrivals like Lord of the Rings and MJ The Musical.

The theatre director will be supported by composer Ian Ross with costume design from Vicki Mortimer, sound and video production from Simon Baker, lighting from Jai Morjaria, and choreography from Vicki Mortimer.

Rice’s previous productions have been noted for highly expressive, passionate storytelling and vigorous set pieces. Here, she’ll retell the story of the nomadic Heathcliff following his adoption into an aristocratic family and his fraught relationship with his benefactor’s daughter, Cathy.

Over the years, the original novel—the author’s first and only—has been cited as one of history’s greatest and most tragic love stories, set against the gender, religious and social mores of the 1800s by examining the cruelty of love and classicism.

While the cast is yet to be confirmed, we know that Wuthering Heights will be a strictly limited run before the production heads off the tour South-East Asia.

Tickets are on sale now ahead of the musical’s opening night at the end of January.
