Sydney cleans up at the World Travel Awards

As several meaningful changes wash over the harbour city, Sydney has cleaned up at this year’s authoritative World Travel Awards.

Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards 2024 has become the world’s most authoritative celebration of the best in destinations, airlines, hotels, tourist attractions and tourism operators. Each year the comprehensive list of categories is judged by both industry professionals and the public, awarding top performers across three tiers: country, regional and world awards.

Sydney has emerged as the big front-runner for the Oceania awards, walking away with six awards including Leading City Destination, an award that has traditionally been dominated by Melbourne, and several awards recognising some of the city’s best hotels like InterContinental Sydney and The Langham Sydney.

Here’s a quick run down of the World Travel Awards that Sydney dominated.

  • Oceania’s Leading Airport: Sydney Airport, Australia
  • Oceania’s Leading Business Hotel: InterContinental Sydney, Australia
  • Oceania’s Leading City Destinations: Sydney, Australia
  • Oceania’s Leading Meetings & Conferences Destination: Sydney, Australia
  • Oceania’s Leading Serviced Apartments: Fraser Suites Sydney, Australia
  • Oceania’s Leading Hotel: The Langham, Sydney
  • Oceania’s Leading New Hotel: W Sydney
  • Australia’s Leading Conference Hotel: W Sydney
  • Australia’s Leading Luxury Hotel: The Fullerton Hotel Sydney

While Sydney is on the precipice of great change with developmental projects like Sydney Metro and Bradfield City, it’s nice to see that some of our long-standing institutions are still performing brilliantly on the world’s stage for visitors.
