From Berghain-inspired rave caves to slap dancing, here’s where to celebrate Oktoberfest in Sydney

It’s a bad year for Sober October, we’ll tell you that much. With the perfect storm of Sydney Beer Week and Oktoberfest Sydney happening in the same fortnight, here are 15 of the best Sydney venues putting on events.

As well as being the official month of Oktoberfest, Sydney Beer Week is returning after a six-year break, so this city is about to get absolutely drenched in craft brews, bratwurst, slap-dancing and Bavarian bangers—and the best part? A lot of it is free. Lace up your boots and stretch out your stomach.


1. Oktoberfest in the Gardens

Sydney’s Domain Park is transforming into a German beer wonderland this October. Think big-ass bratwurst, carnival rides, and multiple stages pumping out everything from traditional Oompah to DJs spinning late-night rave beats. There’s even a Berghain-inspired rave cave. Whether you’re here to smash bratwursts or vibe out at a silent disco, it’s Sydney’s largest Oktoberfest bash, and you don’t want to miss it.


2. The Big Pig Out | Sydney Beer Week

“The Big Pig Out” at The Welcome Hotel. White Bay Brewery will be serving up four of their top beers—two core range and two limited editions. There’s a spit roast pork, live music from 4 PM to 7 PM, and plenty of giveaways. It’s a backyard beer bash that’s ready to bring the goods. Giveaways and Lucky Door Prizes. 3. Beer Synth | Barrel Shepherd × Aristotelis Ke Anthoula

Ready for something a little different? Hit up Bitter Phew on October 19 for Beer Synth, where craft beer and synth-wave collide. You’ve got Barrel Shepherd brews, Aristotelis Ke Anthoula wines, and Hot Luck Club snacks—all set to the eerie beats of Dead Party Dead. This is where craft beer geeks and music heads unite for a truly new-wave drinking experience.


4. Pucker Up! | Sour Beer Fest

Sour beer fans: a) what’s wrong with you? b) this one’s for you. Mixtape Brewing & Bar is hosting “Pucker Up!” on October 24, and it’s going to be a night full of face-puckering sours. Expect everything from local Aussie brewers to international legends, all bringing their best tart, tangy brews to the table, with 2-4-1 tasting paddles for Local Beer Day 24/2. Featured brewers are: Bracket, Slow Lane, Wildflower, Mountain Culture, Mixtape, Frenchies, Sunday Road, One Drop and Beer Fontaine.


5. Mia’s Oktoberfest

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city with Mia’s Oktoberfest in Cronulla. Mia’s Oktoberfest celebrations will have traditional German music, hearty Bavarian platters, and German beers. Mia’s is a traditional German-style beer hall, with long communal timber tables set in a dining hall with an open-air bar, a high roof, and exposed brick walls for an authentic Bavarian experience.


7. Oktoberfest | Club Kirrawee

Club Kirrawee is coming through with a proper Bavarian blowout on October 19. Expect Weihenstephan beers, traditional steins, and plates piled high with German grub from Club Grill. Come in costume—there’s a competition for the best-dressed—and raise your glass to a night of stein-holding, lederhosen, and pure Bavarian bliss.

8. Munich Brauhaus | Oktoberfest Street Party

This iconic Rocks venue is bringing the heat with an Oktoberfest Street Party on October 19. Expect live music, traditional slap-dancers, and some serious keg-tapping ceremonies. You might even catch the Consul General of Germany kicking things off. There will be the yodelling and stein-holding comps, and a chance to win a $100 voucher and to tap the afternoon keg!


9. Beerfest | The Australian Heritage Hotel

Beerfest is back, and it’s bigger than ever. From October 25-27, The Australian Heritage Hotel is turning the streets of The Rocks into a beer lover’s paradise. With over 60 craft beers on offer, gourmet food stalls, and live entertainment, this street party is going to be one for the ages. Grab a beer, meet the brewers, and dive into the city’s biggest beer week bash.

10. Oktoberfest | 4 Pines Truck Bar

If you’re more of a pretzel-tossing, yodeling, bratwurst-eating kind of person, 4 Pines Truck Bar in Brookvale is your jam. The beer’s flowing, the local bands are rocking, and the pretzel toss competition is going all day. Whether you’re here for the Oompah Band or to see OG & The Love Doctors tear it up, this is Oktoberfest stripped down to its rawest, beer-soaked core.

11. Rocky Ridge Guided Tasting at Hotel Sweeneys

Rocky Ridge is invading Sydney for Sydney Beer Week with a guided tasting at Hotel Sweeneys. You’ll get to sample six beers while hearing from the Rocky Ridge team about their brewing process and sustainability efforts. It’s a two-hour sesh with plenty of time for a Q&A, and tickets are only $30—perfect for people who are serious about their craft beer.

12. Lagerhaus | Sneaky Possum

Lagerhaus | Sneaky Possum

Sneaky Possum is hosting Lagerhaus, a tap takeover featuring 12 brews, fresh pretzels, free entry and oompah music. It’s part of Sydney Craft Beer Week, with drinking games, an array of Schnitzels and party vibes.


13. Mountain Culture Rooftop Bash

Mountain Culture Brewing Co. is taking over the rooftop at Quarrymans Hotel for an epic party. With four limited beers on tap, tinnies, a raffle, and a DJ later in the night. You get a free raffle ticket with every schooner of Mountain Culture beer purchased during the event. The grand prize includes beers, special merch and more.


14. Maggie’s, Potts Point

For a chill, cosy vibe, hit up Maggie’s in Potts Point, who will be doing Oktoberfest food and drink specials all month. It’s more of a quiet, intimate spot where you can enjoy hearty German comfort food like schnitzels and goulash without the crowds or chaos. Great for a more laid-back Oktoberfest hang with friends.
