Looking for the best things to do in Sydney this weekend? We’ve got you covered with our weekly guide to the most exciting events happening around town.
With both Jesus Christ Superstar and Six The Musical returning to Sydney this month, this weekend should be all about those ridiculously colourful, bright musicals to inject a bit of magic into the mundane. But that’s not all that’s happening this weekend in Sydney, with the next edition of Sydney Streets heading over to Pyrmont, a nice little interactive slice of Christmas cheer and a buzzing new rooftop bar pulling in all the attention for Sydney’s increasingly varied hospitality scene.
Things to do in Sydney this Weekend
1. Theatre: Six the Musical
SIX The Musical has returned to Theatre Royal Sydney for 80 minutes of pop-powered theatre as the six wives of Henry VIII rewrite history and argue over who had the worst marriage. The Tony Award-winning musical has been in high demand ever since it debuted back in 2017, witnessed by around 3.5 million people around the world each year.
After a successful local tour in Melbourne, the musical begins a limited run in Sydney that’ll take it through to the end of the year. Kimberley Hodgson, Deirdre Khoo, Loren Hunter, Zelia Rose Kitoko, Chelsea Dawson and Giorgia Kennedy are all on board as Henry’s wives, all of whom hilariously bring their own sense of style to stage for what should easily be one of the rowdier productions of 2024.
But will it be funnier than Titanique? You’ll need to head along with Theatre Royal Sydney this month to find out.
Where: Theatre Royal Sydney; 108 King St, Sydney NSW 2000
When: Until December 28, 2024
Price: $99.50
2. Family Fun: Wundrful World of Christmas
Christmas may still be over a month away, but that hasn’t stopped the north pole from leaping over to Sydney this month. Take the family along to Market Street’s Wundr Store for the Wundrful World of Christmas so get into the festive spirit early.
The mixed-reality. CGI-heavy experience uses animation and entrancing visuals to immerse families into a world of holiday cheer. As soon as you step through the Wundr Door, you enter the snowy North with an elf as your guide. You might spot some reindeer along the way, elves hard at work in Santa’s workshop, and maybe even a few treats prepared by Mrs. Claus herself. Of course, Santa comes into play here, with the rotund arbiter of naughty-or-nice chilling in his cosy cottage.
Where: Wundr Store; 31 Market St, Sydney NSW 2000
When: Until Tuesday, December 24, 2024
Price: $39 for adults; $29 for children
3. Outdoor Fun: Pool by BIER BAR
Pier One Sydney Harbour has brought back its popular (and popularly free) netted harbour pool. Placed at the hotel’s private pontoon with enough capacity for 25 people at a time, the sizeable swimming hole has arrived just as barrel towards the summer season. If the weather is on your side this weekend, head on down between 11am and 6pm
Where: 11 Hickson Rd, Dawes Point NSW 2000
When: November 8-10, 2024
Price: Free (although bookings strongly recommended)
4. Theatre: Jesus Christ Superstar
Strutting back into town is rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. November is clearly a month for those big, toe-tapping musicals so the timing couldn’t be any better for a mesmerising new production based on the classic, which has been playing to audiences for over 50 years now.
Featuring lyrics by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, the newly revived production offers a new spin on the playful biblical tale, which is entirely song-based and runs through the complicated dynamics between Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene and his several disciples.
Where: Capitol Theatre Sydney; 13 Campbell St, Haymarket NSW 2000
When: November 13 – December 1, 2024
Price: From $69.90
5. Dining: Joij
We’ll start with the most delicious of the five. Joji is a new Japanese-flavoured rooftop bar on the corner of George and King Streets. Esca Group (AALIA, Nour) carved out a nicely sized space above the Cartier watch boutique for this one, dressing it with smart acoustic design, a breezy wraparound balcony and sharply defined spaces including a lounge area behind the DJ booth.
AALIA’s super dependable Paul Farag has taken care of the food, which takes a playful approach to Japanese comfort classics like a sticky Japanese curry bun and a scallop and bug sando. Best of all, some food is served right up until 1:30am. With a prime CBD location, a rotating roster of top DJs and late trading hours, Joji is unquestionably – and unsurprisingly – the talk of the town right now.
Address: Level 5, 388 George Street, Sydney
Contact: (02) 8353 9788
Opening Hours: Monday – Tuesday (4am – 2am); Wednesday – Friday (12pm – 2am); Saturday – Sunday (4pm – 2am)
6. Family Fun: Sydney Streets – Harris Street
As the spring and summer months roll on, the vibrant Sydney Streets program makes its way over to Pyrmont for this weekend’s all-day street party. The suburb’s main artery, Harris Street, will be closed off the traffic while pop-up bars, restaurants and performers take over for an entire day of family-friendly fun.

7. Theatre: La Clique
As the lights dim, prepare for an experience that transcends the ordinary. La Clique, the international cabaret sensation, is back to celebrate its 20th anniversary, returning to its roots with an electrifying showcase.
This Olivier Award-winning spectacle blends daring acrobatics, scintillating burlesque, and uproarious comedy, crafting a night that’s anything but traditional. Audiences can expect a showcase of extraordinary talent from around the globe, where every act hooks in to the power of live performance.

9. Fitness: Aqua Sculpt
Do you like stand up paddle-boarding? Do you like pilates? How about you take the two together in some beautiful hybrid on-water fitness fun? That’s what Aqua Sculpt is all about. Running for just 45-minutes on a weekend, this unique full-body workout takes place while you’re floating on the placid waters of Rose Bay. Pilates is challenging enough when it comes to balance, but adding the element of water to the equation is going to up the resistance, challenge and hopefully earn you some better results.
Plus, its a great way to dial in a bit of bliss while still remaining active.

10. Drink: Light Up The Cross
Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to run around Kings Cross this weekend and follow the neon signs. The Kings Cross Quarter has started up a new month-long campaign to help bring some vitality back to Sydney’s most notorious district, balancing the focus between nightlife and all the great new venues that have elevated this area over the past few years. From Teddy to The Hook, over 30 participating venues will be offering (affordable) glowing cocktails as well as putting on spritely performances, DJ sets and more.
