Live action remakes have been all the rage for the past few years and Disney’s latest classic of choice is Snow White. The press coverage has been uncharacteristically quiet, with a lot of unexpected political noise overshadowing the fairytale’s revival. But The Grounds of Alexandria is reviving the revival with its latest immersive installation.
A new world at The Grounds of Alexandria
It’s no secret that Australia loves coffee and, when The Grounds was established in 2012, it aimed to become a one-stop-shop for Sydney’s coffee lovers. The Grounds of Alexandria transformed a former pie factory into an expansive cafe and garden with a roastery, bakery and patisserie on-site.
Nowadays, however, The Grounds of Alexandria is renowned for its immersive experiences. They’re an Instagrammer’s dreamland.
The Huntley Street venue is the original and is so much more than your standard coffee destination. It’s a timelessly romantic venue. There’s a Parisian-inspired garden parlour, The Atrium, an airy alfresco Patio and a beautiful garden with crumbling (but chic) brick walls, florals and greenery. Even without a mystical movie transformation, it’s a beautiful space.
Previous movie-inspired immersive experiences that have sprung up here include 2018’s frosted The Nutcracker and the Four Realms installation, complete with snowfall and a Land of Sweets; four pop-ups in 2019, including Mary Poppins Returns, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Frozen II inspired experiences, and 2021’s 30th anniversary tribute to Beauty and the Beast.
Next to impress and takeover everyone’s FYP is the Snow White-inspired wonderland.
Snow White casts a spell Sydney
Entering through the enchanted forest tunnel, complete with illuminated woodland creatures and red apples as far as your eye can see, the Snow White immersive experience lives up to the high standards that visitors to The Grounds now expect.
The light at the end of the tunnel puts the Dwarves’ cottage in full view. There’s a wishing well, overlooked by a deer and squirrels, and the magic mirror hangs on the wall too. It’s truly as if you’ve stepped off Sydney’s streets and straight into the storybook. It goes on and on, spreading throughout The Grounds of Alexandria’s vast space, bringing fantastic floral displays, chandeliers and fairy lights to every corner of the laneways. (Fun fact: there are more than 1,000 lights across the installation).
Nothing has been overlooked.
Entry to the experience is free, but it is open exclusively to dining customers. So make sure you arrive hungry to make the most of the experience and its special menu. And keep your receipt after dining to show the team.
