Sydney Opera House reveals big New Year’s Eve plans

Opera Australia and Sydney Opera House will be going all out to celebrate New Year’s Eve as 2024 switches into 2025.

Sydney already puts on one of the world’s most famous New Year’s Eve fireworks displays each year, but now Opera Australia and Sydney Opera House are stepping things up with a festive double-bill.

Anyone who wants to spend NYE inside one of the world’s most iconic buildings have two options to choose from this year.

The first is a glamorous Opera Gala hosted in the Concert Hall, curated by the Sydney Opera House. Alternatively, guests can choose a special pre-opening showing of Massenet’s Cinderella, which will be the house’s first major production of the year when it opens to the public on January 2, 2025.

Show-only tickets to either production are priced at just $199, making this one of the more affordable ways to get into the Sydney Opera House on New Year’s Eve.

But there are numerous packages available as well. Guests can add-on a pre-show dinner or midnight party to any ticket. But there’s also the option of just not seeing a show at all.

The Northern Foyer will be hosting a three-course dinner on the night for $499 per person with all wines and beverages included. On the other side of the fireworks, there’s a Midnight Party (also $499 per person) with the best view of those colourful crackers complemented by live entertainment, canapés and drinks.

Those who want to go out with a pre-performance dinner, platinum seats to either of the two shows and the Midnight Party are looking at $1,787 per person to package it all up. You’ll get a program and a glass of Champagne at interval as well, plus you won’t drown under a sea of smartphones when midnight strikes.

In other news, it just became much easier to plan your New Year’s Eve with the City of Sydney’s new digital planner.
