You can play Squid Game challenges IRL at Luna Park

Fans of Netflix’s Squid Game are getting a treat from Luna Park Sydney this summer as an immersive experience based on the hit show arrives just before the Christmas holidays.

If you’ve ever watched in awe as contestants play Red Light, Green Light to save their lives, and thought you could make it past the ever-watchful Young Hee, then this one is for you. Of course, there’s no actual risk of harm, which significantly lowers the stakes, but there’s plenty of fun to be had as the immersive experience brings you into the series.

Starting on Monday, December 16, anyone can head along and partake in a series of Squid Game-inspired challenges without the body count. Yes, you’ll play Red Light, Green Light but also a few other challenges that can either be tackled solo or as part of a group capped at 25 participants.

The experience will only run from Friday through Sunday each week for a limited season. Much like in the show, groups or individuals participating in the games will earn points as they go along, with the difficulty steadily increasing after each round. Although, unlike the series, once you get eliminated you can still participate in subsequent rounds.

A massive 4.5-metre status of Young-hee will recreate Squid Game’s antagonistic animatronic character, complete with laser eyes and an eternally ominous presence. And while that should help round out the atmosphere of this Squid Game experience in Sydney, Luna Park ha also had the good sense to follow each night with a post-game market lifted by Korean snacks curated by SOUL Dining.
