Everything to eat at the big Latin festival happening this weekend

Primavera festival, a South American food and music party to celebrate Sydney’s growing Latinx community, is happening again this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Make sure you turn up very, very hungry.

From October 25th to 27th, Macquarie Mall will transform into a hub of Latin American culture, for Primavera festival (Primavera means Spring in Spanish) – giving Sydney the dose of joyful culture.

Follow the sound of music to a lively line-up of Latin American acts including Gabriel Reyes from Chile, Dante Rivera from Peru, Sabor Boliviano from Bolivia and the gorgeous Víctor Valdés Mariachi Band, from Mexico, who are famous for incorporating the harp into their traditional Mariachi line up.

There will be nightly street parades and free workshops of salsa and batcha dance, led by seasoned professionals. Sombrero and mini piñata making workshops will be running for the kids, along with face painting and Frida Kahlo-esque flower crown making.

For grown ups, a pop up bar selling margaritas and ice cold Tecates.

An artisanal market will be stocked with South American and Mexican wares—like textiles, homewares and jewellery.

With Prime Minister Anthony Albanese meeting Latin American leaders this year, this festival isn’t just a celebration of culture and connection, it’s an exciting indicator of how Sydney’s Latin American population is growing.

When: Friday October 25th – Sunday 27th, Between 5pm and 10pm
Where: Macquarie Mall, Liverpool NSW 2170

A better line up than Coachella

For anyone with working tastebuds, the main event at Primavera will not be the warm and welcoming sense of community or seductive latin beats, it’s the glorious roster of food. From creamy horchata to kicky chilaquiles, authentic arepas to Peruvian tamales – this is a serious culinarily roll-call of Latin America’s sublime staples. Below is every food stall that will be serving, and what to order at each.
