The Norfolk to reopen on April 23 with a new look and menu

The Norfolk, one of Redfernโ€™s most beloved pubs, has gone through many lives.

It is considered one of the oldest landmarks on Cleveland Street. But with the times, the pub has gone through three defunct hospitality groups.

The first was Drink n Dineโ€™s House of Crabs Era, followed by The Norfolk House & Hotel, run by The People. And lastly was Public Hospitality, which had a brief stint before all of the group’s pubs last year.

But like Lazarus from the ashes, the Norfolk has arisen again. Solotel has taken over, with three others and has new plans to turn the venue into a new favourite.

The old La Salut space that was the old sports bar is being refurbished to reflect the pubโ€™s art deco heritage. The pub will still have the Ricos Tacos at the back, but Toby Wilson, the mastermind behind the Mexican-inspired food, will oversee the entire venue as executive chef.

Also, on the menu will be items like Good Ways Deli, Ciccone & Sons as well as Yulliโ€™s Brews. The dishes will be available everywhere except the Ricos courtyard and Club Ricos upstairs.

The guys from Good Ways have daily focaccia (which will be paired with French onion dip, while the Ciccone & Sons ice-creamery has an ice-cream sandwich for dessert.

For something thatโ€™s a little more on the pub grub side, there will be sausage rolls sold by the inch. There are also beef and VB party pies, crumbed fish sangas as well as plates of pastrami-cured ocean trout with rye.

Now to celebrate the pubโ€™s relaunch, The Norfolk is offering 50 per cent off all drinks and free samples of the menu. There will also be giveaways as well as live music when the place opens up on Wednesday April 23. Head in from 6 pm.
