Could Lune’s epic Tim Tam croissant be coming to Sydney?

Australia’s undying lust for unexpected “frankenfood” mash-ups appears to have no limits. We’ve already seen a viral ramen pie take over Sydney with massive waiting lists, and now Melbourne-born Lune Croissanterie has stepped up to the plate with a so-crazy-it-makes-sense Tim Tam croissant.

Collaborating with Arnott’s for the brand’s 60th anniversary, one of the most famous croissaneteries in the world—Lune was claimed the world’s best in The New York Times in 2016 and business hasn’t been the same since—has landed on a formula that cleverly aligns the life-affirming flakiness of a buttery croissant with the thick, textured crunch of a chocolate Tim Tam.

In what may be the ultimate afternoon indulgence, the croissant is twice baked with Tim Tam frangipane and chocolate ganache before being finished with a loving drizzle of melted chocolate and topped off with Tim Tam chunks. We can feel the stampede already.

Lune founder Kate Reid said she and her team wanted to create something that befits such an Aussie icon.

“I am this close to fulfilling my dream of becoming the Tim Tam Genie,” said of the limited edition Pain au chocolate.

Now, here’s the bad news. Lune Croissanterie is about a month away from opening its long-awaited local flagship store at Sydney’s new lifestyle precinct, Rosebery Engine Yards. That means Sydneysiders and visitors would need to head to Melbourne or Brisbane to try this heaven-sent creation, which is only available at existing stores from now until Thursday, October 31.

That said, demand and virality always seems to extend the shelf-life of such collaborations, or at least pushes businesses like Lune to keep similar ideas in mind for future limited editions. So this is not to say the new Lune Croissanterie Sydney store won’t eventually be putting this up on the menu as well. If nothing else, it would be a kind gesture after just giving the harbour city a sugary dose of FOMO.

If you are heading to Melbourne or Brisbane soon, take note that it’s best to order the Tim Tam Croissant online and pick it up in-store. For the rest of us, we wait, watch and salivate. over the thought of crunching down on these epic creations.
