It’s time to look back and celebrate one of Australia’s most endearing musicians as Kate Cebrano announces a massive retrospective “Australian Made” tour across the country, kicking off in July and running all the way through to September with both regional and city stops.
Given she’s one of the darlings of the Australian music scene, demand has already shot up for Cebrano’s regional dates, pushing promoters to include some of the country’s most legendary theatres on the schedule, from Adelaide’s Thebarton Theatre to Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall.
The “True Romantic” and “Pash” singer will be landing in Sydney at the tail-end of the tour, playing just one show at a venue that’s yet to be announced.
“The response to this tour has blown us away,” said the singer. “It looks like I wasn’t the only one to think the time is right for a retrospective of my 40 years in Australian music, not only as a writer and a performer, but as a massive fan.”
Kate Cebrano has over 21 albums, the most recent being 2023’s wonderful My Life is a Symphony with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. She’s also written countless other Australian classics and has promised to perform some of those hits as well as her own as she struts from stage to stage.
What will Kate Cebrano perform in Sydney?
“Expect a tonne of Australian classics, and handpicked surprises.”
Those surprises shouldn’t be hard to anticipate. Kate has already promised that she’ll be using this tour to pay tribute to the original Australian Made tour that ran from 1986 to 1987, a career-making run that saw her share the stage with the likes of INXS, Jimmy Barnes, Models and Divinyls. Also on the cards could be songs by Sia, Icehouse, Silverchair, John Farnham, Renee Geyer and the great Paul Kelly.
“This is a love letter to the artists, bands, audiences and storytellers who I’ve travelled with over this vast continent for four decades, a deep dive into what makes me an Australian artist: my hungry heart holding their words to my chest, making them the soundtrack to my life.”
It’s rare to see these type of conceptual performances from high-profile Australian musicians. It’s shaping up to be much more than just another “concert” by a beloved Australian icon, but a celebration of how far Australia’s music scene has come and the timeless songs it has given us along the way.
Will there be any Kylie Minogue songs, though? The two pop stars have clashed in the past but both have seemed to move on from any conflict (connected by the tabloid media or otherwise).
Kate Cebrano performs in Sydney on Sunday, September 14 for her Australian Made tour. The venue hasn’t been confirmed yet but given the types of stages she’ll be performing on across the country, it’s likely to be either Enmore Theatre or City Recital Hall. We’ll update this news piece when a Sydney venue is confirmed.
