See the hot Malevo drummers

Hot Argentinian dance and drumming sensation Malevo are heading to the Sydney Opera House this month.

The 17-strong all-male ensemble will be making their Australian debut, offering a contemporary take on the traditional Argentinian folkloric, Malambo; a folk dance originally performed by gauchos (the South American equivalent of cowboys) of the Pampas region.

Created by director, choreographer, and dancer Matías Jaime, Malevo the high energy dance routines fuses Malambo with flamenco and urban percussion.

Set to a pulsating rhythm of drums, the choreography combines the use of boleadoras, a leather and stone hunting tool used by gauchos, with fast leg movements, energetic zapateados (stomping), and quick cepillados (“brushing”/“scrubbing”).

Standing ovation for drummers

In the past, they have shared the stage with the likes of Ricky Martin and Cirque du Soleil and also reached the semi-final on America’s Got Talent where they reached the semi-final, achieving a Judges standing ovation.

They have also performed across the world, from Las Vegas, New York, Dubai, Paris, Cairo and Montreal. Now this thrilling all-male dance and drummer troupe and their tight leathers are coming to Australia for the first time.
