Most interesting is that Drake is not performing “First Person Shooter” which was arguably his biggest song last year. Taken from the album For All The Dogs, this is the song he had with J Cole in which Cole accidentally sparked a rivalry with Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar with his verse. In case you’ve been living under a rock, Drake adopted that beef which made has continued to make global headlines and has been a source of huge controversy within the music industry.
Original Drake Tour Announcement
One of the biggest names in popular music, Drake, has confirmed an upcoming Australian tour for 2025, making good on rumours that have been floating around the industry for weeks. The Anita Max Wynn tour will kick off at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on February 09, 2025 and wrap on February 24 at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
During a live stream with Canadian gaming streamer xQc on Sunday night, Drake confirmed rumours that he will be starting a new tour in Australia early next year. Dubbed Anita Max Wynn (“I need a max win”), the new Drake tour follows the staggering success of his 2023/2024 It’s All A Blur tour, sitting in 80 sold-out shows across North America with high-profile rappers 21 Savage and J. Cole on support duties.
“February 9th for anybody that’s watching from Australia, I’m coming back to Australia for the first time in eight years,” said the rapper during xQc’s live stream.
“Coming back to Australia on tour. Melbourne, Sydney, Gold Coast… February 9 ’til like… March something”.
The three cities are all that’s been confirmed for the Drake Australia tour so far, but there’s every chance he could be announcing more dates in the run up to February 2025. We also think it’s likely Drake will be performing multiple shows for each city, which makes sense since he will be in the country for at least a month.
Drake’s 2025 tour of Australia has been teased in a series of cryptic social media posts over the past week or so. The first was a photo with Drake in front of the Sydney Opera House, which indicates that perhaps the “Hotline Bling” rapper will be starting the tour in Sydney.
When asked by XQC why Australia was on Drake’s radar for this tour, the Canadian rapper simply replied, “I love it there. It’s just fun”.
While Drake hasn’t been pushing out as much material this year as he usually does, the multi-hyphenate rapper and actor has still been buzzing around the headlines due to his rivalry with Los Angeles rapper Kendrick Lamar. While popular opinion is that Kendrick Lamar came out on top of the rap beef, Drake penned his own solid diss tracks with both “Family Matters” and “The Heart Part 6”.
Most recently, Drake has been involved a lawsuit with Universal Music Group, accusing Kendrick Lamar’s record label of artificially boosting streaming numbers of “Not Like Us,” the brutal diss track that humiliated Drake and saddled him with unsubstantiated claims about his personal life.
