Dip your toe into the city’s world-famous wellness culture and try some of the best spas in Sydney.

It’s no secret that Australia loves to keep fit and healthy. Here, wellness is a lifestyle, not just a trend. To that end, the country is one of the world’s leading destinations for wellness tourisms, with oversees visitors attracted to the enthusiastic culture and outdoor lifestyle.

Run clubs are all the rage in Sydney, as is Pilates. But R&R is just as important as those intense workouts, and for those wanting to relax and unwind while on holiday, Sydney offers plenty of options. Take a mindful hike along one of the many coastal walks, watch the sunrise while stretching on Bondi Beach or take a dip in an ocean pool. For the ultimate indulgence, however, nothing can beat a day at the spa. Here are some of our favourite wellness experiences and spas in Sydney.

SpaQ at QT Sydney

Okay QTies, you know that QT Sydney still has one of the best spas in Australia, right? It’s just the right size, has the right amount of treatments and uses excellent products. Walk right on up to the reception and browse the extensive treatment menu.

A highlight is ‘Decadence’ ($305), which is a 90-minute one-on-one treatment with a tension target massage, essential focus facial, and Wild Thyme foot therapy, plus plenty of time to socialise in the stunning lounge area. You’ve also got couples treatments, a variety of facials, a body peel or body polish, and more.

The ultimate treatment package is the six-hour (yes, six!) ‘Metamorphisis’ package which will set you back a cool $835. For that, you’re treated to a Hammam-inspired steam room, Elixir of Youth body exfoliation, wrap and full-body massage before you go to lunch. Afterwards, the journey continues with a Femme Fetale facial, eye contour and eyelash treatment followed by a glass of bubbly. We’ll leave it up to you to find out whether it’s worth it.

For something kinder on your wallet, take a look at the various facials, foot and hair treatments which cost $125 or $105 when paired with another treatment.

SpaQ is also in the same building as the excellent Gowings Bar & Grill and the equally satisfying Parlour. So you can fit in a feast before or after your treatment.

Take it to the next level at Sol Spa, the lavish day spa that’s built for tranquillity, featuring generous treatments rooms with steam showers and little cocoons that you can sink into.

Sol Spa is better known for facials and skin treatments than massages, with Medi-facials, which target anything from teen and adult acne to rosacea and signs of ageing, and the Luxe facials leading the charge. Ancient healing treatments, including Indian head massage, are also available.

It’s also one of the only spas with a premium on-site restaurant, The Botanica, with some treatments even coming with cute bento boxes made from the kitchen’s daily produce.

Gillian Adams Salon, Spa & Dining

You’ll have to fan out to Turramurra for this one, but the trek to the Upper North Shore will be worth it.

The unique Gillian Adams has been standing in the leafy suburb for more than 30 years, yet it’s still a hidden gem that a lot of Sydneysiders don’t know about.

Shower rituals, deep tissue massages, pregnancy massages and aromatherapy salt glows are the most popular treatments here. But a lot of locals would go just for a dip in the beautiful, European-inspired spa, followed by a luxurious high tea in the garden.

If you’ve dedicated a full-day, look into the four-hour Le Royale treatment ($510) which starts with an Aquamedic pool and steam session, complemented by a lime and ginger salt glow. Afterwards, you’ll get the spa’s signature facial and a gourmet lunch to wrap it all up.

Alexandria, meanwhile, opens in April. Here you’ll find magnesium-rich warm mineral pools (34ยฐC), hot spas (38ยฐC), cold plunge pools (12.5ยฐC) as well as dry cedarwood saunas and a steam room.
