From “Through the Fire” and “Ain’t Nobody” to “Do You Love What You Feel” and “I’m Every Woman”, R&B icon Chaka Khan has given the music world a long list of timeless songs since the 71-year-old singer first entered the business as the lead vocalist of Rufus in 1973.
All those decades later and her name still commands the utmost attention of music lovers worldwide, so it’s no surprise to see her first Sydney Opera House concert sell out in an instant. Demand has pushed promoters Live Nation Australia to add a second date for the Concert Hall in late April, opening up more tickets to see the legendary Grammy Award winner, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and global pop culture icon.
The headline shows are part of a brief Australian stint which will see her visit Melbourne’s historic Palais Theatre on April 18 before heading on up to Sydney, where she’ll perform two concerts for April 22 and 23.
Fans can expect a well-rounded performance from the queen of R&B as well. During her most recent set at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Miami, Khan performed no less than 15 songs from her extensive back catalogue, including beloved Prince cover “I Feel for You” and fan-favourite “I’m a Woman (I’m a Backbone).”
These are sideshows to her headline slot at Australia’s biggest music festival, Bluesfest, where she will play alongside the likes of Crowded House, Toto and Aussie favourite Vance Joy.
In 2023, Chaka Khan was entered in the prestigious Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and now arrives to celebrate over 50 years in the music industry, a career that has recently taken her all the way from Broadway to London’s West End stages. The previous few years have reinvigorated her illustrious career so we’re very confident that these are shows no music fan will want to miss.
