Cargo is celebrating its 24th birthday with a huge two-day party

King Street Wharf’s nightlife mecca, Cargo, is turning 24 this weekend and celebrating with an epic two-day party.

For over two decades, Cargo Bar has been one of the prime spots for late-night dancing backed by the picturesque Darling Harbour.

Some of Sydney’s top DJs have come through to help the multi-floor venue turn into a hybrid between a casual after-work drinks destination and one of the city’s wildest nightclubs.

So it makes perfect sense that the venue will want to play to its strengths as it celebrates a milestone.

Across Friday, August 23 and Saturday, August 24, Cargo will welcome some of Sydney’s top DJs and bands, including A-Shuffler, Eljaay, Lost Avalanche and Valentine. The brunt of performers are scheduled for Saturday, which has a cover charge of $25, but the Friday night is completely free.

During the two-day run, Cargo will also host a competition, asking guests to nominate a mate “to get caked” live on the venue’s Instagram page. The (un)lucky winner will get a $500 bar tab to enjoy on the night, so it’s not like having all that cream smashed into your face comes without reward.

If you’re heading along, be sure to grab some free Messina and cupcakes, which will be served all night long on Saturday.

It’s also a good chance for locals who haven’t been for awhile to experience the new-look Cargo. An expensive refurbishment to the legendary venue was revealed just a few months ago, reshaping the ground floor main room and level 1 lounge with new lighting rigs, a brand new sound system, and a dedicated VIP area.
