Cafรฉ Fredaโs has found a new home after calling last drinks on its Darlinghurst venue in December last year.
But owners Dave Abram and Carla Uriate will return home to their OG suburbs of Chippendale. They have joined forces with hospitality group Solotel who own venues like The Clock, The Erko, and The Marly.
What will be called Bar Fredaโs will move into the Lil Sis space at Solotelโs late-night venue, The Abercrombie.
The duo has set a relaunch date of April and what patrons will find is the same focus on Italian bites and natural wines, which will then shift gears when the sun goes down.
By night, youโll find cocktails and club tunes.
We knew this was the perfect collaboration at the right time for us,” says Abram, who worked closely on the new venue with Elliot Solomon, CEO of Solotel.
“We had been thinking about how to bring together elements from the two different venues we’ve operated in the past. When we first discussed the Lil Sis site and programming the club space in The Abercrombie with Elliot, it felt like serendipity โ it was exactly what we had hoped to do for our next project.”
Abram and Uriarte will also take the lead on the creation and curation of Club Fredaโs which will be a series of club nights held at The Abercrombie.
Itโs fortuitous that the duo has come full circle back to their roots โ Fredaโs ruled the late-night scene of over 15-years. But now, Abram and Uriarte have the space and most importantly, a 24-hour license to bring back all-night dancing and great drinks.
“It’s remarkable that we’re coming back just a few hundred metres from where the original Freda’s was,” says Abram.
“That venue had a big impact on the nightlife scene at the time, and with Club Freda’s nights in the works, I’m beyond excited to be back in a position to provide opportunities for young DJs, promoters and creatives in Sydney and help give them a platform to perform and express themselves. At the heart of it, that’s what Freda’s has always been about.”
