- Sydney’s hyped Wunderlich Lane is opening in just a few weeks with The Eve Hotel as its centrepiece.
- Bar Julius is the first restaurant revealed by the incoming property.
- The colourful bar takes form from the European-style bistros of New York City.
Details have been released for the hotly anticipated EVE Hotel in Surry Hills as well as its signature restaurant, created by the same team behind world-renowned steakhouses The Gidley and Bistecca.
Bar Julius will open at the spirited 102-room property, aligning on the hotel’s playful design with a colourful mural ceiling, by Dinosaur Designs co-founder Lousie Olsen, and a bright, airy, technicolour design.
The hotel, part of the new Wunderich Lane precinct in Surry Hills, is just one of a few premium properties adding to the inner-west’s dynamic hospitality scene with a prime location on the border of Waterloo, Surry Hills and Redfern on the arterial Cleveland Street.
TFE Hotels has been gestating the resort-style hotel for the past four years, spinning a tropical theme into the precinct, which is rounded out by designer shops, bars and more restaurants to create a new lifestyle strip for Sydney.
“Bar Julius is inspired by European-style bistros of New York City, where all-day dining is prominent amongst a melting pot of guests from local residents, nearby workers and travellers,” said Liquid & Larder co-founder and director, James Bradey.
“We are creating a space for people to gather, an atmosphere that is lively and warm, that channels European nostalgia with modern sophistication.”
Liquid & Larder will also be opening a yet-to-be-announed bar and diner on the hotel’s rooftop, but for now it’s looking like Bar Julius is primed as one of Sydney’s biggest openings as we barrel towards the end of the year.
Elevated classics seems to be the play here. The menu will fill mornings with bagels and omelettes, while salads and gourmet burgers spread across the rest of the day. Given the hospitality group’s CBD steakhouse, The Gidley, has been marked with one of the top ten burgers in the world, we’re expecting great things.
On the drinks side of things, you’ve got a corpse-reviving All Day Mary, twisting the classic Bloody Mary with horseradish vodka, Melbourne Sake Co. sake, and a complex house-made gazpacho with tomato, cucumber, parsley oil and several spices. It should be a highlight from the list, aong with a clarified twist on a Mimosa poured tableside from a Champagne bottle.
When Wunderlich Lane is unveiled in early December, the precinct will also get a major new Greek restaurant from the team behind Sydney Potts Point favourites The Apollo and Cho Cho San. The 200-seat Olympus is being described as a “Greek garden restaurant,” inspired by the team’s recent trips around inland Greece with a focus on more traditional and regional flavours.
