Famous French-Swiss pastry chef Amaury Guichon is set to take over Sydney for the 6th annual American Express delicious. Month Out, which takes place between April 30 and June 1 with a stacked series of food and drink events painted across the city.
With the food festival occurring concurrently in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, and for the first time Canberra, the month-long event will be highlighting our country’s irrepressible culinary scene to locals, visitors, and some of the world’s best chefs.
For Sydney, the world-renowned chocolatier is the headline for this month-long foodie event, staging a pop-up store at 20 Martin Place with his famed chocolate creations. This is a man known throughout the world for life-sized chocolate art so we should be getting a nice hit of visual whimsy to help those treats go down. Think of it as an edible LEGO store.
Guichon is constantly going viral on social media, most recently thanks for his intricate 250-kilogram chocolate velociraptor (headline photo). And while we aren’t expectingโnor wantingโto get sink our teeth into a two-metre-tall chocolate sculpture, it’s a good indication of what Guichon will be bringing to the table as Martin Place continues to transform into a hospitality hub thanks to the likes of AALIA, The International, the newly opened LouLou Bistro and Caterpillar Club.
A different kind of chocolate shop
Chef Guichon’s chocolate masterpieces will only pop up for three days during the foodie festival, penciled in for Sunday, May 8 to Tuesday, May 10 with the store open from 10am to 5pm. As per the festival’s designation, American Express Card Members get to play around with certain perks during the month-long event. Here, the first 100 members through the doors each day have a free Amaury Guichon chocolate creation to look forward to.
A more sophisticated operation takes place at night. In addition to the daytime pop-up store, Guichon has hooked up with the award-winning Maybe Sammy team to stage a temporary dessert bar with specialised cocktails on Level 16 at 20 Martin Place. Although AMEX are keeping this one exclusive for card members with tickets set at $50 per person.
What is the American Express delicious. Month Out?
Casually referred to as AEDMO, the festival recruits hundreds of participating restaurants to offer either complimentary gifts or menu discounts to AMEX card holders. That’s the long-short of it, loosening the cost of living pressure for an entire month to encourage Sydneysiders and visitors to spread their culinary wings across town.
The Amaury Guichon chocolate pop-up is the most notable activation for the festival this year, with the shop open to all and the bar exclusive to card holders.
