- Rockpool’s new bar has its own entrance just off Hunter Street.
Plenty has been said about the current cost of living crisis and the value of businesses keeping their costs down while still supplying a quality experience. That balance is hard to dial in for many, with rising costs of produce and other expenses being passed onto customers.
But the team behind the 8th-best steakhouse in the world, Rockpool Bar & Grill, has found a way to satisfy both sides of the scale with their new-look marble bar offering premium, affordable bar food with a reasonably priced menu where most options are priced below $30.
More venues around Sydney are thinking about how they can use Happy Hours to draw in customers but it’s rare to see affordable fine dining so late at night. Rockpool’s new Supper Club menu is offered from 10pm to 1am, not only offering well-priced food and drink but also helping prop up Sydney’s much-discussed night-time economy as more dining options become available after hours.
So how expensive is it?
On the current menu you can grab Rockpool’s famous David Blackmore’s full blood wagyu burger for just $24. To compare, some of Sydney’s other gourmet restaurant burgers include The Gidley’s world-renowned signature burger is $26 but you’re looking at $33 if you want to add the requisite egg and bacon. Jump on over to Circular Quay’s New York-inspired Clam Bar and you’re looking at $35 for the kitchen’s spectacular off-menu burger.
So $26 is a bit of a steal for a burger like this.
Other highlights include hot chips drizzled in wagyu brisket gravy ($20), wood roasted chicken salad with grains and seeds ($22) and a wood fire grilled Coppertree fillet minute steak with cafe de Paris butter ($30). If you’re feeling extra indulgent, get the fish ceviche corn tostada ($18) or a plate of wagyu brisket empanadas ($25 for 4).
The new-looking Rockpool Bar launched earlier this year but is still flying under the radar given Sydney’s outrageous hospitality splurge this year. Yet despite all the new openings, the sophisticated cocktail and wine bar is positioned very nicely for the upcoming holiday season.
Next time you’re stomach starts grumbling around midnight, you’re well-served heading along to Hunter Street and spending an hour or two at this
